Sita works in a nursing home and unexpectedly meets someone from her past named Wahyu. Wahyu had poorly behaved towards his brother Adil, who eventually suffered prolonged trauma. Sita spends her days with Wahyu, and when Wahyu passes away, Sita prepares to be buried alongside him to prove whether the torment in the grave is real or not. In carrying out her mission, Sita is assisted by Adil (Reza Rahadian), who waits outside the tomb. However, Sita’s dark ambition leads to terrible consequences, even triggering unusual events in the nursing home where she works. Nevertheless, Sita remains curious about whether she will witness Wahyu, who has committed sins during his lifetime and received punishment in the grave. Sita’s manic curiosity and obsession with the concept of torment in the grave take the audience on a dark journey full of tension and mystery.

In Siksa Kubur, Sita’s character is an exciting subject for exploration in the context of literary psychology. Sita is portrayed as an individual who experiences severe trauma due to the loss of both of her parents in a tragic event, namely a suicide bombing. This trauma forms a solid psychological foundation for her character, influencing her thoughts, feelings, and behavior deeply.
Sita’s psychological reaction to this trauma becomes the focal point in developing her character. The loss of parents is an emotionally devastating experience, and this film depicts how Sita reacts to this loss. Sadness, anger, and profound loss become integral parts of her psychological journey. Sita’s efforts to seek revenge and justice, particularly with her obsession to witness the torment in the grave, become expressions of the complex internal conflict she experiences. Furthermore, the film demonstrates how past trauma can influence a person’s personality formation. Sita grows up with a great ambition to find the most sinful person and experience their torment in the grave. This ambition, which may seem extreme to some, can be understood as a psychological defense mechanism to cope with the loss and injustice she feels.

In literary and psychological analysis, Siksa Kubur offers a deep understanding of human complexity in dealing with trauma and resolving internal conflicts. By delving into the psychological layers of its main character, the film raises profound questions about human nature, justice, and obsession, which become central themes in this literary work. In Siksa Kubur, the motifs of ambition and obsession held by the character of Sita become an exciting subject of analysis in literary psychology. Sita’s ambition to find the most sinful person and experience their torment in the grave appears to be a direct result of the influence of her traumatic past, namely the loss of both of her parents in a suicide bombing incident. Her psychological condition affected by this trauma becomes the basis for the emergence of such a strong ambition.

Sita’s ambition is a desire for justice and an external reaction to deep internal conflicts. The loss of her parents causes Sita to feel a loss of control over her life and seek ways to regain that sense of control. The ambition to find the most sinful person and witness their torment can be understood as Sita’s attempt to restore justice and control over her life. On the other hand, Sita’s obsession with the concept of torment reveals more profound complexity in her psychological condition. This obsession indicates a profound madness and worsening psychological instability as the story progresses. This obsession may be a form of Sita’s attempt to cope with the trauma and loss she experienced in an unhealthy way, dragging her into a dark cycle of confusion and despair.

Overall, the literary psychology analysis of the motifs of ambition and obsession in Siksa Kubur opens up a deep understanding of the complexity of Sita’s character and strengthens our understanding of how past trauma can shape and change a person’s behavior. These deep psychological layers make Sita’s character a complex subject and enrich the experience of readers or viewers in understanding the dynamics of the story.
